Chandigarh, June 13 – Sunil Jakhar, the Punjab BJP chief, has written a letter to Prime Minister Narendra Modi urging him to rename Adampur airport in Jalandhar after Guru Ravidas. This follows Modi’s expressed wish during a recent rally in Hoshiarpur on May 30. During the rally, Modi highlighted Guru Ravidas as a significant inspiration in his government’s commitment to the welfare of the poor.
Adampur airport, serving Punjab’s Doaba region, had its new terminal buildings virtually inaugurated by Modi on March 10. In his letter, Jakhar congratulated Modi on his third term as Prime Minister and emphasized the deep emotional and spiritual significance of renaming the airport after Guru Ravidas. He noted that this renaming aligns with Modi’s vision of fostering India’s spiritual ethos and has long been a demand of the people of Punjab.
Jakhar also proposed that the area surrounding the Guru Ravidas temple in Tughlakabad, Delhi, slated for reconstruction, be transformed into a tranquil garden. He believes this enhancement would amplify the shrine’s appeal and attract visitors from across the country to experience the revered saint’s teachings of equality.
