Jammu: In its war against drugs, Jammu Police arrested one drug peddler with contraband of more than 177-kg of poppy straw being smuggled to neighbouring Punjab from Kashmir.
Police spokesman this evening said that based on the specific inputs regarding drug peddling, several checkpoints were laid at different locations by Police.
“One truck was intercepted by the team at Suketar in Jhajjar Kotli area in the city outskirts and during checking, 177 Kgs 138 grams of Poppy straw was recovered from the vehicle,” said the spokesman.
He said that the truck was on its way from Srinagar towards Jammu.
One drug peddler, identified as Namneet Singh of Harbanspura Tehsil, Hilalpura District Fatehgarh, Punjab, was arrested on the spot.
A case under NDPS Act was registered and investigation started.
