Hyderabad, Nov 22: President Droupadi Murmu emphasized the need to foster a “Nation First” mindset among citizens to accelerate India’s progress towards becoming a developed nation. She delivered this message during the inauguration of LokManthan-2024, a colloquium of nationalist thinkers, held in Hyderabad.
Addressing the gathering, President Murmu reflected on the impact of colonial rule, stating that it not only exploited India economically but also attempted to disrupt its cultural and social fabric.
“The colonial rulers sought to dismantle India’s rich intellectual traditions and instilled a sense of cultural inferiority, undermining the nation’s unity. Centuries of subjugation left citizens with a mentality of slavery. To overcome this, the principle of ‘Nation First’ must be instilled in every citizen,” she asserted.
She highlighted that attempts to divide Indian society and create artificial differences were aimed at weakening the nation’s unity. However, the enduring spirit of Bharatiyata (Indian-ness) has preserved the country’s sense of togetherness.
“Whether we are forest dwellers, villagers, or city residents, we are all Indians first. This national unity has been the bedrock of our resilience through countless challenges,” she said.
President Murmu also spoke about India’s ancient global influence, noting the worldwide appreciation of its religious beliefs, art, music, medicine, technology, language, and literature.
“Indian philosophical systems were among the first to offer life ideals to the global community. It is our responsibility to uphold and strengthen this glorious heritage,” she added.
The event was attended by prominent dignitaries, including Telangana Governor Jishnu Dev Varma, Union Coal and Mines Minister G Kishan Reddy, Telangana Women and Child Welfare Minister D Anasuya, and RSS Chief Mohan Bhagwat.
