PM Modi Unveils Advanced Medical Facilities at AIIMS Kalyani

Kolkata, Oct 29 — Prime Minister Narendra Modi virtually inaugurated several new healthcare facilities at AIIMS-Kalyani in West Bengal’s North 24 Parganas district on Tuesday. The additions include a state-of-the-art cardiac cath lab and a Pradhan Mantri Bhartiya Jan Aushadhi Kendra, a dedicated outlet for affordable generic medicines.

The newly inaugurated cardiac cath lab features advanced imaging equipment designed to provide detailed visualization of the heart’s chambers and arteries. Additionally, a cardiopulmonary bypass (CPB) machine has been introduced to support heart and lung functions during surgeries, AIIMS officials reported.

Present during the virtual ceremony at AIIMS-Kalyani were BJP MPs Jagannath Sarkar, Shamik Bhattacharya, and other party representatives. Earlier in the day, PM Modi also launched development initiatives worth approximately Rs 12,850 crore and announced an expansion of the Ayushman Bharat health insurance scheme to cover all citizens aged 70 and above.

The inauguration coincides with the celebration of the ninth Ayurveda Day, marking the birth anniversary of Dhanvantari, the Hindu deity of medicine. AIIMS-Kalyani initially began clinical services on January 27, 2021, by opening outpatient department consultations across eight major specialties and later expanding to inpatient care in December 2021.
