New Delhi, Oct 22: The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has filed a chargesheet against Gurpreet Singh, also known as Gopi, a key associate of Khalistani terrorists Rinda and Landa, in a Punjab terror conspiracy case. The charges were presented before an NIA special court in Mohali on Monday, according to an official statement.
Gurpreet Singh is identified as an associate of Harwinder Singh Sandhu alias Rinda and Lakhbir Singh alias Landa, both of whom are designated terrorists linked to the banned terrorist organization, Babbar Khalsa International (BKI). The NIA’s investigation has established his involvement in a conspiracy orchestrated by BKI terrorists aimed at instigating terror in Punjab and other regions of the country.
The agency has linked Gurpreet to the rocket-propelled grenade (RPG) attack on the Sarhali police station in December 2022. Investigations revealed that he maintained contact with his foreign-based handlers from jail and continued communication even after his release.
Furthermore, the NIA uncovered that Gurpreet conspired to raise funds for BKI and its operatives in India by orchestrating large-scale extortion from local businessmen on the instructions of Landa. He was also involved in recruiting vulnerable youth for the BKI terror module and conducted reconnaissance on targets identified by Landa, including attempts to eliminate them.
In January of this year, the NIA conducted a search operation at Gurpreet’s residence, during which an illegal weapon was seized. As a result, he has been charged under various sections of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act, the Indian Penal Code, and the Arms Act.
