NEW DELHI, June 7: Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced on Friday that India’s recent qualitative advancements in the education sector are evident in the QS World University Rankings. He stated that his government aims to further enhance research and innovation in its third term.
“Over the last decade, we have focused on qualitative changes in the education sector. This is reflected in the QS World University Rankings. Compliments to the students, faculty, and institutions for their hard work and dedication. In this term, we want to do even more to boost research and innovation,” PM Modi posted on X.
The QS World University Ranking-2025, released on Wednesday, highlights the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) in Bombay and Delhi among the top 150 universities globally. MIT maintained its top rank for the 13th consecutive year. IIT Bombay improved from 149th to 118th place, a jump of 31 ranks, while IIT Delhi rose by 47 ranks to secure the 150th position.
The ranking, published by the London-based higher education analyst Quacquarelli Symonds (QS), noted that the University of Delhi excelled in graduate employability, ranking 44th globally in the “employment outcomes” category.
With 46 universities featured in the rankings, India has the seventh most represented higher education system globally and the third in Asia, following Japan (49 universities) and Mainland China (71 universities). India’s representation in the rankings has surged by 318 percent over the past decade, from 11 institutions in 2015 to 46, marking the highest growth among G20 nations, according to QS officials.
