Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Congress leader Rahul Gandhi are poised to ramp up their Lok Sabha campaign efforts with major rallies in Delhi on Saturday. This marks the first campaign-related public appearance in the capital for both leaders.
Modi will address supporters in North East Delhi, where the BJP has fielded incumbent MP Manoj Tiwari. Meanwhile, Rahul Gandhi will speak in the Chandni Chowk constituency, campaigning for candidates from the INDIA bloc.
Delhi is set to vote in the sixth phase of the Lok Sabha elections on May 25. In the 2019 elections, the BJP secured all seven seats in the capital.
Delhi BJP chief Manoj Virendra Sachdeva described the prime minister’s rally as “historic” and expects a significant turnout. Tiwari noted the enthusiasm of his constituents and mentioned that extensive arrangements have been made for Modi’s visit.
Rahul Gandhi will hold a major public meeting at Ramlila Ground to support Congress candidates from the INDIA bloc. Delhi Congress leader Anil Bharadwaj emphasized the importance of the event, and interim Delhi Congress chief Devender Yadav reviewed preparations in the Wazirpur assembly segment of Chandni Chowk. Yadav urged party workers to ensure the rally’s success.
Under the seat-sharing arrangement, the INDIA bloc has the Congress contesting three seats while the AAP is running in four.
Enhanced Security Measures
Security has been tightened across Delhi in anticipation of the rallies. In addition to the Special Protection Group (SPG), Delhi Police’s security wing and local police will be present at the PM’s rally. Approximately 2,000 security and traffic personnel will manage the crowds and ensure safety.
