Narmada (Gujarat), March 2: Microsoft co-founder and renowned philanthropist Bill Gates praised the Statue of Unity in Gujarat, hailing it as an “engineering marvel” and a fitting tribute to Sardar Patel. Gates expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for the invitation to visit the monument and commended the positive economic impact it brings to local tribal communities, particularly women. In response, PM Modi welcomed Gates’s appreciation and encouraged global visitors to experience the world’s tallest statue in Gujarat.
Taking to the X social media platform, Gates shared his thoughts: “Thank you @narendramodi for the invitation to visit the impressive Statue of Unity. It is an engineering marvel and a great tribute to Sardar Patel. Also great to see it is creating economic opportunity for local tribal communities, especially women.”
PM Modi, responding on the same platform, expressed his satisfaction with Gates’s experience: “Happy to see this! Glad that you enjoyed your experience at the ‘Statue of Unity.’ I also urge people from all over the world to visit it in the coming times.”
During his visit, Gates met Union Minister for IT, Ashwini Vaishnaw, to discuss leveraging India’s AI ecosystem for improvements in health, agriculture, and education. Gates praised India’s digital public infrastructure journey as a model for emerging economies and expressed the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation’s intent to support the Indian government’s initiatives in building open, secure, and interoperable systems.
Bill Gates, currently on a visit to India, has engaged with top leaders, participated in cultural and local events, and attended the pre-wedding celebrations of Mukesh Ambani’s son, Anant Ambani, in Jamnagar, Gujarat.
