The Major League Cricket (MLC) has been granted official List-A status by the International Cricket Council (ICC) ahead of its second season, set to begin on July 5.
This recognition comes after a successful inaugural season and officially acknowledges MLC as a premier T20 league and America’s first world-class domestic cricket tournament.
“Every century, half-century, five-wicket haul, run-out, win, loss, and championship will now be documented as official career statistics in an internationally recognized format of the game. This will also provide local US players and emerging stars with the opportunity for international recognition, furthering the development of domestic talent through MLC,” read an official release from MLC. MLC is the first professional Twenty20 cricket championship in the United States.
“We witnessed cricket mania sweep across the US last year with our inaugural season of Major League Cricket. Now, we are building on that momentum as we head into the highly anticipated ICC T20 World Cup and our second MLC season. With an unforgettable summer of cricket ahead, we’re ready to captivate American sports fans with our thrilling, adrenaline-charged game, which is rapidly becoming the most exciting emerging T20 tournament globally,” said MLC CEO Vijay Srinivasan.
Sanctioned exclusively by USA Cricket, MLC features superstar players from around the globe, bringing world-class T20 cricket to America. The inaugural season in the summer of 2023 featured six teams: Los Angeles Knight Riders, MI New York, San Francisco Unicorns, Seattle Orcas, Texas Super Kings, and Washington Freedom.
