Punjab : Punjab is grappling with an unprecedented surge in dengue cases this year, with more than 11,000 individuals affected, resulting in seven fatalities.
According to the Health Department, out of 54,368 individuals tested for dengue, 11,028 have tested positive, and seven lives have been claimed by the vector-borne disease.
Health officials anticipate that the dengue outbreak will persist for several weeks, with over 100 new cases reported daily. On Wednesday alone, 175 new cases were confirmed. Hoshiarpur leads in district-wise cases with 1,340, followed by SAS Nagar with 1,160, Patiala with 910, Kapurthala with 862, Bathinda with 634, and Amritsar with 570. It’s noteworthy that last year, the state reported 41 dengue-related deaths and 11,030 cases.
Additionally, 1,397 cases of chikungunya have been documented, with six districts contributing to over 80 percent of the reported cases. Amritsar district tops the list with 544 cases, followed by Hoshiarpur with 225, Kapurthala with 158, Pathankot with 116, and Tarn Taran with 94.
