INDIAN ARMY’S KUPWARA TERRIERS PAYS TRIBUTE TO IT’S VALIANT HEROS AT PATAHIRRI KUPWARA

Kupwara, 29 Sep: A wreath laying ceremony was held at Patahirri garrison to commemorate Rfn Bashir Ahmad Khan, SM (P) and Rfn Shafeeq Ahmad of 160 Inf Bn (TA) (H&H) JAK RIF. The Martyrs were residents of Machil, Kupwara and Tangdhar Kupwara respectively who laid down their lives while discharging their duties in service of our mother land.
On 29 Sep 2005 Rfn Bashir Ahmad Khan, SM (P) was leading a column of troops in forest area of Machil Kupwara. During searches he guided the troops to pinpoint location of terrorists by maintaining surprise. Suddenly he was charged by a Fidayen terrorist and was grievously injured. However, despite his injuries, he advanced towards the terrorists’ location and eliminated all three terrorists hiding there. Later The Martyr succumbed to his injuries.
Today Kupwara Terriers officers, Jawans and Veer Naris (Widows) laid wreath followed by two minute silence to remember the ultimate sacrifice of the brave hearts at the memorial.
Post the ceremony a brief interaction was held with the Veer Naris to address any issues being faced by them. Kupwara Terriers expressed gratitude to the families and assured continued support and assistance to them.
