World cancer day observed at GMC Kathua

World Cancer Day was observed at GMC Kathua. On the occasion a specially designed psychooncology workshop was conducted by Department of Radiation Oncology and Department of Psychiatry. The event was inaugurated by Principal GMC Kathua Dr Anjali Nadir Bhat who in her address wished the patients a speedy recovery and highlighted the foresight of Government for having started Radiation Oncology Departments in New GMC’S because of which cancer treatment has been possible at District Headquarters. A message from Director New Medical colleges and President Academy of Hospital Administration Dr Yashpal Sharma was also read out where he extend full support to GMC Administration in conducting such patient friendly activities He also asked patients to be positive in their treatment for better outcome. Medical Superintendent Dr Chitra Vaishnavi gave detailed overview of facilities of cancer treatment available at GMC and the work done so far. Dr Deepak Abrol Assistant Professor Radiation Oncology introduced the gathering to World Cancer Day and highlighted the importance of Cancer Awareness for early detection and better treatment. Dr Rajesh Chandel and Dr Mustafa Ali from Department of Psychiatry conducted the psycho Oncology Session well appreciated by patients and care givers. On the occasion Lajwanti Bhagatnath Radiations of Hope a Cancer Care Foundation Trust which supported the event distributed cheques to some cancer patients for supporting their treatment. Supportive Medicine was also distributed. Cancer Awareness Literature was distributed in general public as well. Dr Pawan Kumar Radiation Oncologist presented vote of thanks. On the occasion Dr Surinder Atri, Dr Sanjay Kalsotra, Dr Rajesh Angral, Dr Anil Gupta, Dr Arun Kumar, HOD of different departments, faculty and staff were also present.
