Doda, Nov 2: In a significant leap for emergency healthcare, the Government Medical College (GMC) Doda has successfully conducted its first-ever thrombolysis procedure on a stroke patient. This landmark achievement represents a transformative moment for medical services in the Chenab Valley.
The pioneering procedure occurred under the leadership of Principal Dr. Rakesh Bahl and Head of the Department of Medicine, Dr. Amir Hussain Parray. This marks the first time such a sophisticated treatment has been made accessible locally.
The patient, identified as Roshan Lal, hailing from village Dolli in Gundna tehsil, exhibited classic stroke symptoms upon arrival at GMC Doda. Swiftly assessed by a dedicated team comprised of Dr. Govinder Kumar (MD Medicine), Dr. Divyanshu (Resident Doctor), and Dr. Momin (Intern), the medical staff acted promptly to begin treatment.
With the backing of Mr. Rajinder Singh, Mr. Arif Mir, and the nursing staff, the team administered thrombolytic therapy to the patient. Encouragingly, doctors reported that the patient is recovering steadily as a result of the timely intervention.
Previously, patients in Doda and surrounding areas experiencing acute strokes had to be transferred to GMC Jammu or other specialized hospitals. These referrals often lead to devastating delays in treatment, crucial during the critical window for stroke management. The new protocol at GMC Doda allows for world-class stroke treatment to be provided within the district, a significant development for local healthcare.
Dr. Bahl commended the medical team, referring to the event as “a landmark achievement for GMC Doda” that offers reassurance to countless residents of remote areas, who can now access urgent care without delay.
