The Minister for Tribal Affairs, Javed Ahmed Rana, emphasized the necessity of preserving tribal heritage at the vibrant Tribal Mela today. The event took place at Sagra, Mendhar in Poonch, where participants gathered to celebrate and showcase the rich cultural identity of communities in the Pir Panjal region. Rana called for collective and sustained efforts to protect and promote the long-standing tribal values that define these communities.
Addressing a sizeable crowd, Rana highlighted that development must not come at the cost of cultural erosion. He urged an integrative approach that harmonizes societal progress with the preservation of traditions. In his speech, he warned that unchecked modern influences pose a significant threat to tribal customs and moral frameworks, thereby diluting their unique identities.
Rana reiterated the Omar Abdullah Government’s commitment to fostering inclusive development aimed at building a resilient, self-reliant tribal society. He praised the efforts of the Tribal Affairs Department and the local administration for their contributions in organizing the event, which he described as a meaningful step towards development with dignity.
The Tribal Mela attracted large crowds, showcasing tribal heritage, food, and traditional wisdom. Numerous stalls offered visitors a taste of indigenous cuisines, casual dining experiences, and insights into precious medicinal plants and healthcare knowledge systems. Additionally, a free medical camp operated during the festivities, providing essential consultations and services to the local population.
