RSS Chief Mohan Bhagwat Highlights Vyakti Nirman Values
At the centenary Vijayadashami event in Nagpur, RSS Chief Mohan Bhagwat reaffirmed the organization’s commitment to character building over politics, emphasizing social harmony and integrity.

RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat on Thursday emphasized that the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) will not engage in politics, despite numerous invitations and allurements. He made this statement during the annual Vijayadashami function in Nagpur, which marked the Sangh’s centenary, highlighting the organization’s steadfast commitment to ‘vyakti nirman’ (character building) over its hundred-year journey.
Addressing a gathering of swayamsevaks, Bhagwat shared valuable insights drawn from the RSS’s century-long existence. He asserted that reforms in the global landscape need to unfold gradually to avoid chaos and destruction. “India must present a development model based on a holistic and integrated outlook, rooted in dharma, and offer it to the world,” he stated, reflecting on the crucial role of ethical values.
In his discussion on dharma, Bhagwat explained that it transcends mere rituals or traditions, representing core principles that connect society. He highlighted that social transformation is possible through exemplifying virtues of integrity and selflessness, which RSS aims to promote through its regular shakhas.
“Over the last 100 years, the RSS has been tempted to enter politics, but our focus remains solely on running shakhas and character-building,” he reaffirmed, reinforcing the idea of vyakti nirman as the path for sustainable social change, a belief shared collectively by swayamsevaks.
Highlighting the rich diversity within India—its myriad languages, faiths, lifestyles, and traditions—Bhagwat posited that this pluralism must be embraced as a source of strength. “All communities, including those who adopted foreign religions, are part of the larger Indian identity,” he stated. He urged individuals to foster harmony and mutual respect while rejecting violence as a means of conflict resolution.
During his address, Bhagwat criticized the rising tide of hooliganism and communal discord, calling for law enforcement to act impartially. He also urged society, particularly the youth, to remain vigilant and organized, emphasizing the importance of intervening to maintain peace and order within communities.
The theme of this year’s Vijayadashami celebration resonates deeply with the RSS’s ongoing vision of nation-building through social integrity, aiming to instill a sense of duty and service among its members and the wider population.
