Railways to Extend Vande Bharat Train from Jammu to Srinagar

The Indian Railways Department has confirmed plans to extend the Vande Bharat Express from Jammu to Srinagar, enhancing connectivity for the region’s commuters. This initiative, aimed at improving travel experiences, is an essential development for the citizens of Jammu and Kashmir.

Divisional Railway Manager Jammu, Vivek Kumar, confirmed the expansion, stating that preparations are actively underway. The move comes after the original schedule faced delays due to significant damage to railway tracks caused by recent floods and incessant rains.

“We are committed to restoring services. The damage caused by the floods and heavy rainfall delayed our plans, but we are making rapid progress. We aim to launch this service once we receive the necessary safety clearances,” Kumar told reporters during a press conference.

The Katra–Srinagar Vande Bharat service, introduced earlier this year, has already transformed travel across the scenic landscape, drastically reducing travel times between the Valley and the Mata Vaishno Devi shrine. The extended service to Jammu is expected to further facilitate regional connectivity.

Officials noted that the new Jammu–Srinagar Vande Bharat Express, when operational, would run daily. This will provide commuters with improved travel comfort and significantly reduced journey times compared to existing rail and road services. Enhanced connectivity is crucial not only for local residents but also for the influx of pilgrims and tourists visiting the picturesque region.
