Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday marked 11 years of the ‘Make in India’ initiative, praising its significant contributions towards strengthening the Indian economy and promoting self-reliance. The initiative, launched on this day in 2014, aims to harness the entrepreneurial spirit of the nation.
PM Modi shared his thoughts on X, stating, “It is gladdening to see how 11 years of Make in India has contributed to furthering economic strength and laying the foundation for Aatmanirbharta (self-reliance). It has encouraged innovation and job creation across sectors.”
He noted, “The Make in India initiative was launched with a vision to accelerate India’s growth and realise our nation’s potential.” This initiative has provided substantial momentum to local entrepreneurs, crafting a broader global impact.
As he spoke, PM Modi urged for a renewed focus on promoting indigenous production across various sectors. He emphasized that India’s journey towards becoming a ‘Swadeshi’ economy necessitates collaboration with all stakeholders.
Additionally, during his address at the Uttar Pradesh International Trade Show-2025, PM Modi informed that several unnecessary compliances have been abolished, simplifying the business environment for local entrepreneurs. “We want everything, from chip to ship, manufactured in India. Our government is dedicated to enhancing the ease of doing business,” he affirmed, highlighting the abolition of over 40,000 compliance requirements.
Union Commerce and Industry Minister Piyush Goyal also praised the initiative’s success, particularly in indigenous defence production. “The world is a witness to India’s defence manufacturing strength today! Guided by PM Narendra Modi’s vision, we have achieved remarkable feats in this sector, underscoring the success of the Make in India initiative,” he posted on X.
On the same day, India successfully launched the Intermediate Range Agni-Prime Missile from a rail-based mobile launcher system, capable of hitting targets up to 2,000 km away. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh commended the organizations involved in this significant accomplishment.
As ‘Make in India’ celebrates its 11 years of impactful existence, it continues to play a pivotal role in driving the nation towards economic self-sufficiency, innovation, and global competitiveness.
