SRINAGAR, Nov 23: Higher-altitude areas in Kashmir experienced fresh snowfall on Saturday, while the Meteorological Department forecast wet weather in the region alongside a rise in minimum temperatures, officials reported.
The tourist hotspot of Sonamarg in Ganderbal district and upper areas of Gulmarg received light snowfall. Other high-altitude locations, including Zojila Pass and Sadhna Top in Kupwara, also recorded light snow, officials said. Additionally, parts of the Valley experienced light rain.
Cloud cover led to a rise in night temperatures across most areas in Kashmir. Srinagar, which recorded its coldest night of the season on Friday at minus 1.2 degrees Celsius, saw a low of 2.5 degrees Celsius on Saturday.
Elsewhere, Qazigund recorded 0.8 degrees Celsius, Pahalgam registered 3.2 degrees, and Gulmarg, a renowned skiing destination, noted a low of minus 0.5 degrees Celsius. Kupwara and Kokernag recorded minimum temperatures of 2.1 degrees Celsius and 2.4 degrees Celsius, respectively.
The Met Department has predicted light rain or snow in scattered to widespread areas in the higher reaches of Kashmir on Saturday. For Sunday, light rain or snow is expected in isolated areas, followed by mainly dry weather through the end of November.
Looking ahead, the forecast indicates potential light rain or snow in higher-altitude regions on December 1, while dry weather is likely to prevail from December 2 to December 5.
