NEW DELHI, June 12: The Congress on Wednesday criticized the BJP’s claims of peace and normalcy in Jammu and Kashmir, pointing to three recent terror attacks in the region as evidence to the contrary. Congress leader Rahul Gandhi demanded answers for the government’s failure to apprehend those plotting against the country under BJP rule.
“Narendra Modi is busy responding to congratulatory messages and cannot even hear the cries of the families of the devotees who were brutally killed in Jammu and Kashmir,” Gandhi posted on X in Hindi. He highlighted three separate terror incidents in the last three days in Reasi, Kathua, and Doda, accusing the prime minister of celebrating instead of addressing these attacks.
Congress media in-charge Pawan Khera also questioned Prime Minister Modi’s silence on the terror attacks, noting that he had time to respond to Pakistani leaders but not to condemn the attacks. “BJP’s loudmouth chest-thumping and hollow claims of return of peace and normalcy in Jammu and Kashmir have been thoroughly exposed,” Khera said in a statement, emphasizing the BJP’s failure to contest elections in the Kashmir valley as evidence of the “Naya Kashmir” policy’s failure.
Khera criticized the Modi government’s national security policies over the past decade, arguing that they have made national security a “casualty.” He pointed to a series of recent terror attacks, including a deadly attack in Reasi district that left nine dead and at least 33 injured, a subsequent attack in Kathua, and an encounter in Doda that injured six security personnel and a civilian.
Khera questioned why Prime Minister Modi has not addressed these attacks publicly, asking, “Did the victims not deserve a word of sympathy from the self-proclaimed ‘divine’ prime minister?” He highlighted the increasing terror incidents in the twin border districts of Rajouri and Poonch, with over 35 soldiers martyred in the past two years alone, and now spreading to Reasi district.
The Congress leader detailed the major terror attacks on security installations under the Modi government, including attacks on CRPF camps, army camps, an Air Force station, and military stations in Pulwama, Pampore, Uri, Pathankot, Gurdaspur, the Amarnath Yatra, Sunjwan Army camp, and others, resulting in significant loss of life. He also accused the government of inviting the rogue ISI to investigate the Pathankot attack in 2016 and criticized the handling of national security amid 2,262 terror attacks in J&K, resulting in the deaths of 363 civilians and 596 jawans.
