Baramulla, Aug 08 : Rustam Battalion under the aegis of Pir Panjal Brigade, in partnership with the Uri Foundation NGO, has launched a five-days “Say No to Drugs” campaign from Nambla Village. The campaign’s primary goal is to enlighten the youth about the dangers of drug abuse and contribute to the elimination of drug-related issues in remote villages, fostering a healthier community.
Commencing with an interactive counselling session led by Dr Aijaz Bhatt, a psychiatrist from GMC Baramulla, the initiative focused on educating students and villagers about the adverse effects of drugs, emphasising mental well-being, and promoting preventive measures. Advocate Mumtaz Ahmad Beigh from Uri covered the legal consequences of drug trafficking and consumption.
The campaign spans five days and encompasses various activities in different villages, with the aim of enhancing awareness regarding drug abuse and driving positive change in Rustam and nearby areas. It will equip youth and villagers with knowledge about the perils of drug addiction, the detrimental effects of psychotropic drug misuse, legal implications, and strategies to combat addiction.
Mr. Abrar Ahmad, chief coordinator of Uri Foundation NGO, expressed gratitude for the active participation of villagers and lauded the Indian Army’s role in eradicating the drug menace. Mr. Sajad Ahmad, a member of Nambla Volunteers Group, highlighted the Battalion’s relentless efforts to address the drug issue and anticipated more such collaborations in the future.
