Over 50 crore liquor sold in last six days at liquor shops in Jammu after lockdown

After the lockdown of about one and a half months, liquor shops worth more than Rs 50 crore have been sold in the last six days at open liquor shops in Jammu division. This is five times the average sales before lockdown.

A total of 119 shops are open in Jammu division at present and about a hundred shops are still closed. The government increased excise duty by 50 per cent on the price of liquor, but this too had no effect on sales. The Excise Department has opened forty shops in Jammu division in the first phase, 73 in the second phase and now five more shops from Tuesday.
