JAMMU, November 4: Sheetal Devi, the Asian Para Games gold medalist, is currently in intensive preparation for the upcoming Para Olympics in Paris, with the goal of bringing more medals for India. She expressed her delight after meeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who offered his blessings and motivation.
Sheetal Devi shared her feelings, saying, “I also felt good after meeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi; he also gave his blessings and motivated me. I am preparing for the upcoming Para Olympics so that I can bring medals for my country there as well.”
Sheetal embarked on her archery journey just last year and has already achieved remarkable success by securing seven medals in three international sports events. She attributed her accomplishments to her training at the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board and her dedication to the sport.
Sheetal detailed her achievements, stating, “I started archery last year. I have learned archery at Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board. Till now I have played three international tournaments. First, I participated in World Rankings where I won gold, silver, and bronze. Then I took part in World Championships where I secured a silver medal. Now, I have participated in the Asian Para Games, where I won two gold and a silver medal. I feel very good after bringing seven medals to my country. I will strive to continue delivering medals for my country.”
Sheetal expressed her gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his motivation, acknowledging that she had never anticipated reaching this level of success. She stated, “I have never thought that I would reach this level. I always wanted to do something for my country. I want to thank PM Modi for his motivation.”
At the Asian Para Games, Sheetal’s remarkable performance earned her three medals, including a women’s team silver, a mixed team gold, and gold in the women’s singles compound open event. In the women’s singles event, Sheetal demonstrated exceptional skills and defeated Singapore’s Alim Nur Syahidah in a closely contested battle.
Despite trailing by one point in the first three sets, Sheetal delivered an outstanding performance by achieving back-to-back perfect scores, securing a final score of 144-142 in her favor. Sheetal’s achievements stand as a testament to her dedication and the bright future she envisions for Indian para-athletics.
