Major Police Reshuffle in J&K: 14 Officers Transferred, Sujit Kumar to Head Kashmir Zone

Srinagar, August 28: The Jammu and Kashmir Home Department has ordered a major reshuffle in the Police Department, transferring and posting 14 senior IPS and JKPS officers with immediate effect.

The changes were ordered through Government Order No. 438-Home of 2026, dated August 27, 2026, issued in the interest of administration. The official J&K Home Department order also confirms the reshuffle.

Among the key changes, Sujit Kumar, IPS, has been posted as IGP Kashmir Zone, while Tejinder Singh, IPS, has been posted as IG Jammu Zone. The reshuffle also brings changes in the leadership of CID, Armed Police, Security, Railways, Police Headquarters and several districts.

Key Changes at a Glance

The reshuffle notably changes the leadership of both major police zones in Jammu and Kashmir. Sujit Kumar will head the Kashmir Zone as IGP, while Tejinder Singh will take charge of the Jammu Zone. At the same time, M.K. Sinha will take over as ADG CID, while Nitish Kumar moves to Armed Police.

At the district level, Sahil Sarangal moves to Pulwama, Sunny Gupta to Kishtwar, Tahir Saleem Khan to Handwara and Naresh Singh to Rajouri, while Muzaffar Ahmad Shah has been assigned as Staff Officer to the IGP Kashmir Zone.

The order has been issued by order of the Lieutenant Governor and signed by Chandraker Bharti, IAS, Principal Secretary to the Government, Home Department. All transfers and postings have been ordered with immediate effect.
