Doda Police Cracks Motorcycle Theft Case within 48 Hours

Doda Police successfully cracked a motorcycle theft case, arresting two suspects within 48 hours of the theft on November 5, 2025, in the Jathi area of Doda district.

The incident began when Omair Ullah Wani reported the theft of his motorcycle, registration number JK06A-6107, prompting immediate action from local authorities. Doda Police registered an FIR No. 37/2025 under Section 302(2) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) following Wani’s complaint.

SSP Doda Shri Sandeep Mehta (JKPS) directed the formation of a special investigative team led by PSI Shivam Dev Singh. Under the guidance of DySP DAR Doda and SHO of Police Station Assar, the team set out to solve the case quickly.

By the early hours of November 6, investigators identified specific leads and detained two suspects. Under sustained questioning, both men confessed to stealing the motorcycle during the intervening night of October 26. Law enforcement recovered the stolen vehicle from their possession.

The suspects were identified as Mohd Tariq @ Baffer, a resident of Bhagtha, Katra in District Reasi, and Munish Kumar from Bali Chanalra, Bhalesa, District Doda. Tariq’s criminal history revealed he is a habitual offender and absconder wanted in multiple cases across various states, including Jammu and Kashmir and Himachal Pradesh.

Law enforcement discovered a long list of FIRs registered against him, showcasing a pattern of criminal activity that includes theft, burglary, and narcotics-related offences. Previous cases involved serious charges under the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act.

Tariq had been on the run, evading arrest for an extended time, and was wanted across multiple districts, illustrating his extensive criminal network. The seriousness of his offences prompted the Hon’ble Court to issue a general warrant for his arrest.

The swift action of Doda Police underscores their unwavering commitment to public safety and crime prevention. “Doda Police stands firm against repeat offenders, ensuring a safer community,” stated SSP Mehta.

The seamless collaboration and dedication exhibited by the investigative team played a crucial role in resolving this motorcycle theft case. The prompt recovery of the stolen vehicle sends a strong message to criminals that Doda Police are vigilant and prepared to protect the community.

Public safety remains a top priority for law enforcement in Doda and across India. The quick resolution of the theft case reaffirms the effectiveness of police response protocols and the importance of community support in reporting crimes.
