Omar Approves Water Management Project and Heritage Courses in J&K

Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah announced on Thursday the approval of a comprehensive used water management project and the introduction of heritage courses aimed at preserving traditional crafts in the region. The used water management project, which includes a significant Rs 19.99 crore investment in a sewage treatment plant for Ganderbal town, aims to enhance public health and protect the environment.

The Chief Minister’s office emphasized this initiative through a post on social media platform X, stating, “This will ensure proper treatment of used water, keep our rivers clean and improve public health and sanitation.” This focused effort underscores the government’s commitment to sustainability and environmental welfare in Jammu and Kashmir.

In an additional move to safeguard local culture, the J-K government has initiated a scheme under the skill development department to revive heritage courses. This scheme will introduce seven traditional craft courses across 25 government ITIs and polytechnics in the region. The plan will accommodate 500 students, providing them with essential skills and knowledge unique to J&K’s rich heritage.

“A step towards preserving heritage and promoting skill-based livelihoods in J&K,” the Chief Minister’s office asserted, highlighting the dual focus on culture and employment opportunities. This initiative not only aims to train future artisans but also strives to sustain the rich tapestry of Jammu and Kashmir’s historical craftsmanship.

As these projects take shape, the government reinforces its dedication to improving sanitation and environmental health through targeted investments in community facilities. The sewage treatment plant in Ganderbal will significantly impact the local ecosystem, preventing the contamination of rivers and water sources.
