The Congress on Thursday sharply criticized the central government, highlighting that the rising unemployment has become a matter of grave concern for the nation. Congress leader Jairam Ramesh accused Prime Minister Narendra Modi of being “always in election mode,” focusing on public speeches instead of addressing critical issues affecting millions.
Addressing the media, Ramesh explained that the past 11 years under the Modi government have negatively impacted various sections of society. In a post on X in Hindi, he lamented, “Students, youth, farmers, labourers, workers, shopkeepers, employees, businessmen – not a single section is happy with this government.” He went on to mention that inflation is skyrocketing, the rupee’s value is continuously falling, and the gap between the rich and poor is widening, complicating life for many in the poor and middle-class demographics.
Ramesh emphasized that rising unemployment poses a significant challenge against this backdrop. He cited the latest report from the Centre for Monitoring Indian Economy (CMIE), stating that India’s unemployment rate rose to 7.5% in October 2025, marking the highest level in six months and indicating an alarming trend.
He added that “Millions of people have lost their jobs across sectors, including construction and IT-banking. Over 90 lakh people have lost their jobs in the construction industry alone, while the number of salaried jobs has declined by 25 lakh,” underscoring the gravity of the situation.
Ramesh pointed out that such alarming figures surfaced year after year over the past 11 years, yet the government appears indifferent to the plight of citizens. Targeting PM Modi directly, he remarked, “It seems Modi ji has no concern for the youth of this country. Always in election mode, he is busy crafting new speeches and narratives to distract the public from the unemployment crisis.”
The Congress party has consistently criticized the government’s economic management, accusing it of fostering an environment of rising prices, declining private investment, and stagnating wages. They argue that these factors severely hurt ordinary citizens.
Ramesh concluded with a call for the government to put real economic reforms into motion and prioritize job creation over mere propaganda and political rhetoric. He reiterated that times of crisis demand solid solutions instead of ongoing political campaigns.
