In a devastating incident early Monday morning, 19 people died and four others sustained injuries when a gravel-laden tipper lorry collided head-on with a Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TSRTC) bus near Chevella, situated in Telangana’s Ranga Reddy district.

The collision, which occurred around 6 AM, caused severe damage to both vehicles. Eyewitnesses reported that the impact was so strong that it sent gravel flying over the bus, trapping several passengers inside the wreckage. Tragically, among the deceased were 10 women and the bus driver, who was making the journey from Tandur to Hyderabad.

Authorities are still determining the exact number of passengers on the bus. A senior police officer noted, “The total number of passengers in the bus could not be ascertained immediately.” The injured survivors remained in shock, unable to provide details about the crash.

Rescue teams responded swiftly to the scene, utilizing earthmovers to clear debris and carry out relief operations. Firefighters and police worked together to pull out trapped individuals and transport them to nearby hospitals for urgent medical attention.

In response to this tragic accident, Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy expressed profound sorrow and mandated Chief Secretary K. Ramakrishna Rao and DGP Shivadhar Reddy to oversee rescue operations on a war footing. The Chief Minister also directed cabinet ministers to visit the accident site and ensure immediate assistance for the victims.

The Chief Minister emphasized the government’s commitment to supporting affected families. He ordered that the injured passengers be shifted to Hyderabad for advanced medical care, ensuring that all available resources will be dispatched to provide immediate relief.

This incident underlines ongoing concerns regarding road safety in the region. Authorities continue to investigate the specifics surrounding the accident. The state government has reiterated its commitment towards enhancing transport safety measures to prevent future tragedies.

A onlooker, who witnessed the collision, shared, “It was horrifying to see the wreckage and the rescue efforts. We need to ensure safer roads for everyone.”

As the community mourns those lost, many express wishes for the recovery of the injured. Local leaders have begun discussions on road safety initiatives to prevent similar incidents in the future.
