PM Modi Highlights Youth Strength in Jammu & Kashmir Train Services
PM Modi emphasizes the potential of Jammu & Kashmir’s youth and the role of train services in boosting trade during the launch of a new agricultural scheme.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi recently highlighted the immense strength of the youth in Jammu and Kashmir while emphasizing the critical role of newly introduced train services in enhancing trade movements across the region. This statement came during a farmer interaction event in New Delhi, coinciding with the launch of the PM Dhan Dhaanya Krishi Yojana, a remarkable ₹24,000 crore initiative aimed at transforming agricultural productivity.
The Prime Minister’s focus on Jammu and Kashmir’s youth underscores the potential for economic growth and development as the region adapts to the new train services. These services have significantly accelerated the movement of goods, marking a pivotal change in local trade dynamics.
Among the farmers present was Fayaz Ahmad Ganaie from Ganderbal district. He shared his remarkable success story with the Prime Minister. “I’ve come from Kashmir and saw your progressive schemes for farmers. I now have 14 employees and earn around ₹15 lakh in profits annually,” Ganaie expressed, crediting his achievements to the government’s supportive policies.
In response, PM Modi said, “The youth of Jammu and Kashmir have immense strength. Now with the train services, goods have been moving fast from the Kashmir Valley.” This remark reflects the government’s recognition of the vital role that local youth can play in the economic landscape of the region, especially with improved logistics.
Additionally, it is essential to note that goods train services have recently commenced operations, directly connecting New Delhi with Kashmir. This direct route allows for the transport of essential items such as vehicles and the region’s famous apples, marking a transformative step in logistical capabilities.
During the event, the Prime Minister encouraged farmers to transition gradually towards natural farming practices. He suggested starting with small land segments to build confidence in these methods. Numerous farmers reported successful transformations after previous engagements with Modi, demonstrating the community’s responsiveness to innovative agricultural strategies.
A woman farmer spoke highly of the PM-Kisan Samman Nidhi scheme, referring to the annual ₹6,000 support as “a blessing” that enabled timely purchases of seeds and field preparations. Others at the event showcased their agricultural innovations, including aeroponically grown “Jain potato” and value-added garlic products.
As PM Modi discussed India’s agricultural advancements, he revealed impressive statistics: agricultural exports have nearly doubled over the past 11 years, food grain production has surged by 90 million metric tonnes, and the output of fruits and vegetables has risen by 64 million metric tonnes. He also noted that India ranks first in milk production, holding the title of the second-largest fish producer, and has witnessed honey production double since 2014.
Furthermore, Modi highlighted the establishment of over 10,000 Farmer Producer Organizations (FPOs) aimed at fostering farmer cooperation and improving market access across the width of India. These organizations empower farmers by enhancing their capacity to sell directly to the market and leverage collective bargaining.
Regarding the formulation of the PM Dhan Dhaanya Krishi Yojana, Modi expressed that the initiative draws inspiration from the successful Aspirational Districts Model, underscoring the government’s commitment to empowering farmers through innovation, technology, and inclusive growth.
As Jammu and Kashmir embraces these robust agricultural initiatives and improved trade logistics provided by train services, the region stands poised for a sustainable economic transformation. The collaborative efforts between the government and local farmers will likely usher in a new era of growth and development within the Valley, fostering increased participation from the vibrant youth of the region.
