J&K Govt Adds New Rights For Prisoners with Disabilities In Prison Manual

JAMMU, July 24: The Jammu and Kashmir Government has amended the Prison Manual, 2022, to include specific rights and facilities for prisoners with disabilities.
As per a notification issued by the Home Department, the new clause under Chapter XVII ensures non-discrimination, accessibility of prison infrastructure, proper healthcare and rehabilitation, disability screening during admission, and regular training of prison staff to handle the needs of differently-abled inmates.
The move aims to promote dignity, equality, and appropriate care for all prisoners with disabilities across jails in the Union Territory
