The Royal Enfield Ice Hockey League (REIHL) is set to make a grand return to Ladakh for its second season, scheduled from January 4 to 13, 2025, at the Nawang Dorjay Stobdan (NDS) Stadium in Leh. Following the overwhelming success of its inaugural season, which attracted over 6,000 spectators, the upcoming edition promises to further spotlight local talent and drive the growth of ice hockey in the region.
Tournament Structure and Schedule
The 2025 season will feature 30 action-packed matches, including 23 in the men’s category and 10 in the women’s category.
- Men’s Tournament: Divided into two groups of five teams, the top two teams from each group will advance to the semi-finals.
- Women’s Tournament: Played in a round-robin format, with two groups—one comprising three teams and the other two—leading to semi-finals and finals scheduled for January 12.
The men’s championship final will conclude the league on January 13.
Community Engagement and Development
Organizers have aligned the event with the Losar festivities to engage the local community. This initiative provides athletes with an opportunity to stay active during the winter months and aligns with Royal Enfield’s broader Social Mission in Ladakh—to establish ice hockey as a major sport in the region and foster its development.
Training Camps and Expert Coaching
In preparation for the league, Royal Enfield conducted extensive training camps across Ladakh, including in Drass, Zanskar, Nubra, Kargil, Shakar Chiktan, Leh, and Changthang. Additionally, a specialized coaching program was held in Delhi in December 2024 under the guidance of Darryl Easson, an IIHF-certified coach with international experience in the UK and Hungary.
