RBI Approves Amitava Chatterjee as MD & CEO of J&K Bank

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has approved the appointment of Amitava Chatterjee as the Managing Director (MD) and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of J&K Bank. The approval, conveyed via an official letter dated December 24, 2024, has been granted under Section 35B of the Banking Regulation Act, 1949.
Chatterjee will assume office on December 30, 2024, for a tenure of three years. As per the RBI’s notification, his annual fixed pay has been set at ₹1.40 crore, inclusive of perquisites.
The appointment of Chatterjee is seen as a significant move for J&K Bank. Industry experts anticipate that his leadership will bring strategic insights and innovation to the institution, steering it toward greater financial stability and growth.
Contingency Measures in Place
The RBI has outlined contingency measures to ensure a seamless transition in the event that Chatterjee is unable to assume office by the designated date. Under such circumstances, the bank’s Board of Directors will be required to propose an interim arrangement, subject to RBI’s approval. The interim measures are mandated to take effect after business hours on December 29, 2024.
