Dharmari, August 7, 2024 – The National Service Scheme (NSS) Unit at Government Degree College (GDC) Dharmari recently held two impactful events as part of their ‘Swachhta Abhiyan’ and 77th Independence Day celebrations.
On August 7, the NSS Unit spearheaded a successful cleanliness drive focusing on the natural water resources near the college campus. Both volunteers and faculty members united to clean up litter and pollutants from the local water source, clear overflowing paths, and create accessible routes for the local community. This effort not only enhanced water quality but also underscored the crucial need for environmental conservation.
Additionally, the NSS Unit organized a quiz competition on the National Freedom Movement Heroes. Held at the college’s Activity Hall, the quiz attracted over 35 participants. Ms. Shabnam Akhter, a B.A. Semester 5th student, emerged as the top scorer and will represent the college in the district-level quiz competition at Government General Zorawar Singh Memorial Degree College, Reasi, on August 10, 2024. The quiz aimed to deepen participants’ understanding of the key historical figures who contributed to India’s freedom struggle.
Prof. Ajay Kumar, Program Officer of the NSS Unit, highlighted, “These events reflect our commitment to environmental stewardship and national heritage. By engaging in activities that both clean our natural resources and celebrate our national heroes, we aim to instill a sense of responsibility and pride within our community.”
The cleanliness drive was conducted under the guidance of Prof. (Dr.) Mohd. Mazammal Hussain, Principal of the College, with supervision by NSS Programme Officer Prof. Ajay Kumar and other faculty members.
