The Taekwondo Association of District Budgam created history by organising the first event of a different kind. The 1st FAAVOS Taekwondo cup -2023 was organised here in Budgam on 1st & 2nd December -2023 at Indoor Sports Stadium Budgam to give honour to the historical and legendary Personalities of Taekwondo history in the UT of J&K. The FAAVOS title is the first letters of the names of these Legendary Taekwondo players and organisers. F for Late Farooq Ahmad in Mir (Founder of Taekwondo in Kashmir valley), A for Master Atul Pangotra (the only international referee and the international medalist, the first NIS qualified Coach (TKD) of the UT J&K.) A for Syed Ashaq Hussain (Founder of Taekwondo in Budgam), V for Late Shri Vishal Sharma (The Founder of Taekwondo in j&k, the first Taekwondo athlete of j&k), O for Syed Owais kawser ( the most senior, taekwondo player and national medalist of District Budgam) and S for Mr. Mohammad Saad Bhat (the only Commen Wealth medalist of Taekwondo). The championship was inaugurated on 1st December . More than 300 Taekwondo athletes took part in 2-Day event. The championship was concluded on 2nd December. Master Atul Pangotra was the chief guest on the closing ceremony of the event. The Foundation world school got the Winners trophy by yielding 18 Gold 24 Silver 34 Bronze Medal. District Srinagar bagged the 1st Runners up trophy with 15 Gold 7 Silver 1 bronze medals. While as Power Punch Taekwondo Academy got the 2nd runners – up trophy with 12 Gold 9 Silver 3 Bronze Medals. The event at the one hand was to honor the legendary Taekwondo personalities and on the 2nd hand, it provided a platform for the athletes to participate in a mega event where they would gain a lot of experience for future events. The Taekwondo Association of District Budgam thanks all the Supportive agencies like the J&K Sports Council and the management staff of Budgam Indoor Stadium, the Chief medical officer and staff deputed for the event to provide medical (first-aid) to provide medical facilities, media persons who gave good coverage to the Events, parents who attended the event and cheered up their children and most of all, all the referees, officials, volunteers and the participating athletes who made this cup a grand event.
