JAMMU, Nov 13: The Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Jammu has joined hands with the Small Industries Development Bank of India (SIDBI) to introduce a one-year-long Skill to Enterprise Module (STEM) program for students in Jammu and Kashmir, as well as Ladakh, as announced by an official on Monday.
The program is set to commence in two batches, beginning on December 4 and December 19, at the Srinagar and Jammu campuses of the institute. It aims to provide students with the necessary knowledge and guidance to initiate and expand their businesses in the future, the official stated.
The STEM program will offer a comprehensive four weeks of residential training, coupled with eight weeks of virtual training. This structure is designed to help participants develop a solid understanding of business management, compliance, finance, planning, and strategic aspects of running a business, according to the official.
The program is particularly beneficial for individuals who have completed technical courses and possess valuable skill sets but lack the essential resources and knowledge to start their own businesses. It also offers an opportunity for those seeking financial independence and aiming to make a positive impact in their communities through entrepreneurship.
The selection of candidates for the program will be based on the readiness of their ideas, and they will receive guidance through industry mentorship and incubation. Additionally, the trained candidates will be connected to financial institutions through Credit Connect Schemes, the official informed.
The STEM program, a joint initiative of IIM Jammu and SIDBI, will train a total of 60 selected participants over a one-year period free of cost, the official added.
