Remove Toll Plazas at National Highway between Lakhanpur to Jammu : Dr Shazad
Jammu, 24/Aug/2023 : Jammu and Kashmir Border Area Development Conference(JK_BADC) , a registered organization working for the welfare of border areas in J & K has asked the National Highway Authority of India(NHAI) to take a rational decision on collection of toll charges at National Highway between Lakhanpur to Jammu as the condition of the road is wretched and the people are continuously suffering.
Dr Shazad Ahmed Malik, Chairman of BADC and former Vice Chancellor while expressing his dismay over the controversy over collection of Toll charges in border districts of Samba and Kathua said “ The road between Lakhanpur to Jammu is in shambles due to ongoing construction of 6 lane highway (Delhi_Katra expressway) and also due to damage of bridges and diversion of road due to rains and flash floods, thus the demand of people regarding the hefty charges at toll plazas is justifiable”.
Dr Shazad said when the people have to take longer routes to complete their journey due to damaged bridges and devastated roads but instead of compensating people; the NHAI authorities are showing no mercy to the citizens and adding millions of rupees every day in their kitty.
The BADC Chairperson blamed the NHAI officers for not promptly resolving the issue and instead allowed it to turn it into a huge controversy.
He said the demand of the people regarding toll plazas and toll charges is absolutely genuine and BADC fully supports the demand for removal of these toll plazas till the expressway is not completed and the damaged bridges are not repaired and made open for traffic.
