Samba/Jammu, August 22 : Restrictions have been imposed on the movement of individuals near the Sarore toll plaza in Jammu and Kashmir’s Samba district, following a protest led by an organization named ‘Yuva Rajput Sabha,’ which is demanding the removal of the toll plaza.
Samba District Magistrate, Abhishek Sharma, invoked Section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC) late on Monday night, prohibiting the assembly of four or more individuals in and around the toll plaza. This action comes after a sizable gathering of Yuva Rajput Sabha members staged a protest on Monday, during which some demonstrators attempted to damage the toll plaza structure. In response, the police had to employ baton charges to disperse the crowd.
The protesters expressed their contention that the toll plaza’s establishment violates established regulations. This sentiment has been echoed by numerous other organizations, including trade associations, which have called for the removal of the toll plaza. These groups argue that people are burdened with an unnecessary toll fee when they have to leave their residences for essential purposes.
Subsequent to the protest, the police detained certain members of the outfit who had staged a sit-in protest outside the toll plaza during the night.
