J-K LG: Constitution Permits Action Against Those Threatening National and State Integrity

J&K : Jammu and Kashmir’s Lieutenant Governor, Manoj Sinha, emphasized on Sunday that the administration is prepared to take decisive legal measures against individuals engaged in acts of terrorism, noting that such actions are sanctioned by the Constitution.

In discussions with reporters, Sinha highlighted that the nation’s Constitution empowers authorities to adopt stringent measures against those jeopardizing the country’s unity by supporting terrorism and its associated network. He further pointed out instances where individuals had managed to secure government employment through illicit means while contributing to the terror ecosystem.

“Our Constitution empowers us to take action against those who pose a threat to the state or national integrity and sovereignty… Our government is committed to addressing individuals involved in the terrorist ecosystem and those who have illicitly secured government positions,” he stated.

It is important to note that Article 311 of the Constitution pertains to the dismissal, removal, or demotion of civil employees within the Union or state governments.

The Lieutenant Governor’s statement follows J-K Bank’s decision to terminate its chief manager, Sajad Bazaz, based on allegations of previous involvement in supporting terrorism and its network.

Earlier, Mehbooba Mufti, the president of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), criticized the Jammu and Kashmir administration for selectively dismissing Kashmiri employees by labeling them as “sympathizers” of terrorists.

Mufti stated, “The selective termination of Kashmiri employees under false pretenses of being terrorist sympathizers and pro-ISI agents has become normalized. The accused are denied the opportunity to establish their innocence, with the government assuming the roles of both judge and jury. This approach seems designed to intimidate Kashmiris into submission.”
