Dissatisfaction over the installation of smart meters

Jammu Aug 4:  Residents of ShahDullah Kotli area continue their Dharna under the leadership of Narinder Sharma (Social Activist) and Mohd. Arif (Prominent Kissan Leader) against the PDD and LG administration. They expressed their dissatisfaction over the installation of smart meters, citing concerns about their ability to afford the high bills generated by these meters. Today Spokesperson J&K, Partap Singh Jamwal alogwith Satvir Singh Manhas (Social Activist) join protest Dharna.

   Addressing the protesters, Partap Singh Jamwal said that the majority of households in the area belong to lower-income groups, and the financial burden imposed by the smart meters would be beyond their means.

     Partap said that the electricity supply system has totally collapsed in Jammu plains and the smart meters have become a source of harassment for the electricity consumers. 

        Satvir Manhas siad that the people of Jammu plains have been left with no option by the PDD but to face harassment with the overcharged electricity bills, and constant unscheduled power cuts.

   He further added that the new meters will burden the poor with hefty electricity bills and demand a survey to assess people’s ability to pay. 

      They demanded immediate roll back of the decision of the UT Government.
