Despite Jammu and Kashmir’s better power generation capacity, the needs of other states are being met: Amit Kapoor

Our people are yearning for electricity, being harassed under the guise of smart meters
Government should stop diversionary and misleading tactics and focus on holding assembly elections: Amit Kapoor
Jammu, 22 July : Aam Aadmi Party’s Jammu Province Vice President Amit Kapoor has said that despite Jammu and Kashmir having better power generation capacity, the needs of other states are being met by giving it to outside states. Along with this, he said that the people of the state are being forced to yearn for electricity in the guise of installing smart meters and are being harassed as well.
Amit Kapoor said this in a statement issued here. He said that industrialized and developed states can afford higher power tariffs, but an economically underdeveloped state like Jammu and Kashmir cannot do so. He said that due to the separation between the common people and the administration in the absence of a democratic system, the common people were facing many problems. He said that due to the current smart meter installation process and economic crisis and high unemployment, people are unable to pay high electricity rates.
He expressed surprise that the manner in which the J&K government, especially the PDD, is determined to impose smart meters on people without assessing the economic crisis in the underdeveloped J&K is worrisome. He said that our power generation capacity is better but it meets the needs of other states, J&K being a stakeholder does not get expected power supply rather government has started installation of meters which will increase the problems of people due to economic crisis and lack of other methods and demanded that people should be provided power as per past experience.
If the PDD wants to meter every household in J&K regardless of the pitiable condition of the people, then the supply should be round the clock without any interruption. He said that power supply is an urgent need during summer in Jammu, but it is very surprising that people do not get expected power supply during these hot days.
He said that the emphasis should be on addressing the issues of the people instead of forcing them to come on the streets to fulfill their demands and asked the government to stop the diversionary and misleading tactics in J&K and focus on holding the assembly elections without wasting any time, as only an elected government can reach out to the people and address their issues.
He said that his party would strongly oppose every step of the government which would be against the wishes of the people. People are struggling for their livelihood, the economic burden being imposed on them in one way or the other will lead to starvation in J&K.
