DOGRA DEGREE COLLEGE ORGANISED AN ENVIRONMENTAL VISIT TO MANSAR WILDLIFE SANCTUARY

Bari Brahmana, Jammu, 29 April 2023 : In line with practical work of skill course (Environmental Impact Assessment) in Environmental Science, a one day environmental visit to Mansar wildlife sanctuary, Samba was organised by Dogra Degree College for the students of BA IVth semester of Arts department accompanied by their teacher mentors Ms. Palak Gupta and Ms. Rohini Saini on 29th of April, 2023. Mansar Lake is a lake located 62 km from the city of Jammu in Jammu and Kashmir, India. It is fringed by forest-covered hills, and is over a mile in length and half-a-mile in width. Surinsar-Mansar Lakes
are designated under Ramsar Convention in November 2005. Mansar wildlife sanctuary is
conserved by Department of wildlife protection, J&K Government. Students got a chance to
witness different species of fishes, turtles, tortoises, birds(lesser whistling Duck, common teal male anasarca, Peacock etc), animals(Nilgai, Deer,Stag). The lake supports CITES and IUCN redlisted Lissemys punctuata, Aspideretes gangeticus and Mansariella lacustris. The composite lake is high in micro nutrients for which it is an attractive habitat, breeding and nursery ground for migratory waterfolks like Fulica atra, Gallinula chloropus, Podiceps nigricollis, Aythya fuligula and various Anas species.
The students also decorated the wall near the lake with the theme titled ‘Save Earth’ and
‘Green and Clean India’. The students got a chance to showcase their creativity as well as to spread awareness about environment conservation. This visit helped the students to observe different varieties of birds, fishes, turtles,animals etc. It was a collective effort by the wildlife department and institution to facilitate and concrete the theoretical knowledge of the
students.
