Worsening Condition of Housing and Streets in Some areas is Causing Distress Among Jammuites: Sawhney

Roads and Lanes Cry For Attention in Jammu West : Sawhney

Former Minister Yogesh Sawhney along with a team visited Ward no. 29 – Rajpura, Shakti Nagar in Jammu West constituency to look into various issues and concerns of the residents on their request. The team, upon investigating and taking a round of the said areas, found multiple problematic issues in the locality. The enquiry highlighted the dire condition of the streets and the unrepaired tightly packed lanes, with electric wires hanging at low heights posing danger to the inhabitants among other such issues. It was noted that residents of the area have been facing a tough time due to the poor condition of streets and interior lanes as a majority of these are in bad shape. After examining the area, Sawhney also contacted higher authorities to immediately look into the matter and take necessary steps to resolve the issues. The residents had reached out to Sawhney to look into the matter, for the area in question, is adjoining to the area of the Mayor, and even then their issues haven’t been resolved, thus making the residents increasingly agitated over the bad condition of their surroundings.

Sawhney interacted with the locals to learn about the problems they had been encountering. It was noted that the PDD department has irresponsibly managed the electric lines which are running dangerously close to the houses and are hanging at heights of less than six feet in majority of the area. Sawhney said that such mismanagement can cause mishaps for the locals and questioned who will be responsible for them in case that happens.

The former minister was accompanied by Rajesh Sharma General Secretary DCC, Manmohan Sharma Block President, Rakesh Sharma President Ward No. 29, Arun Kumar, Naveen Sharma, Bharat Bhushan, Pooran Balgotra, Gardari all and Vinod on his round of the ward.

The condition of streets is becoming from bad to worse due to the broken drains and lanes which need immediate repair, but the authorities have been in deep slumber and are paying no heed to the problem. The streets are broken and unrepaired. The project involving extension of streets by the PDD has also not been timely completed and causing another problem for the people.

Some residents also alleged that the authorities have been biased in their treatment of these issues because of their alliance with the opposition party. They accused the authorities deliberately withhold help because some residents align with another political group.

Sawhney highlighted the mismanagement and carelessness on the part of authorities including the JMC and PDD department. He stated that such problems are affecting the living conditions of the residents and causing distress among them. He commented that worsening condition of housing and streets in some areas is causing distress among Jammuites. Thereafter, he called concerned higher authorities to inform of the situation of the inhabitants o ward 29 and requested them to take up the matter to relieve the people of these disturbing issues.
