PSA Detention Of Naeem Akhtar Extended By 3 Months

Following the extension of former Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti’s detention under Public Safety Act for another three months, the government today extended the detention of senior Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) leader Naeem Akhtar for another three months.
The PDP says such moves are bound to fail and they cannot be alternative to political outreach.
Early this week government booked Mehbooba under PSA after her earlier detention period expired.
Akhtar and Mehbooba Mufti were arrested on August 5, 2019, the day the central government revoked Article 370 and Article 35A of Indian Constitution amid lockdown, communication blockade and arrest of thousands of people in Jammu and Kashmir.
The government initially booked them under section 107 of CrPc for six months like other political leaders and after the expiry of the six months of their detention in February this year, the government booked them under PSA.
