RTI Activist appeals Lieutenant Governor to order probe into misuse of funds by Muncipal Committee Akhnoor.

Akhnoor, 7th March: RTI Activist and Student leader Atul Sudan (State Vice President Jammu Joint Students Federation) levels serious allegations on officers of Municipal Committee Akhnoor for misusing govt funds. Addressing a press conference in Akhnoor, Atul Sudan informed media that he had filed an RTI on Muncipal Committee Akhnoor on 25th November 2019 regarding yearly revenue generated by MCA and details of utilization of that revenue from year 2017 to 2019. Replying to which MC Akhnoor has replied that in 2017-18 around 2crore 32lakh revenue was generated, in year 2018-19 around 2crore 9lakh revenue was generated where as in year 2019-20 around 2crore 8lakh revenue has been generated till november month of 2019. Sudan further disclosed that giving reply regarding utilization of this revenue, department has given details of Only Rs34 lakh in year 2017-18, Rs18lakh in year 2018-19 and Rs 18lakh in year 2019-20 upto november. Sudan alleged that when revenue generated in years mentioned above is in Crores,but the concerned department has given utility details of only few lakhs..! which smells a huge scam can be there. He said that the department has tried to hide the real facts and tried to misguide him by giving wrong information in reply to RTI filed by him.
Further adressing the media ,Sudan said that in reply to another point of his RTI ,department has replied that total 571 street lights/led lights has been installed in Akhnoor town from year 2017 to Nov 2019 which also raises a serious question as on ground same is not visible. He allege that department has not given the details that where these lights have been installed and what is their current status.. whether these lights are working or not. He said that department has given false, wrong and incomplete information in reply to his RTI. He said there is something fishy and there are high chances that Municipal Committee Akhnoor has misused exchequers money which should be probed.
He said that he will write a letter to Lieutenant Governor along with the RTI filed and reply given by department to demand independent probe of the govt funds misued by Muncipal Committee Akhnoor. He said that he has filed 1st appeal in this regard but till now no reply has been given by the department which means all are hand in glove in this huge scam. He appealed Lieutenant Governor to immediately order a probe and take stern action against those found guilty in this. He further appealed Lieutenant Governor to make RTI effective in Jammu Kashmir UT to make all departments accountable as after revocation of article 370, there is no SIC and RTI applicant have to move to CIC where there is huge pendency of cases knowing of which the corrupt officers are playing with RTI.
