She was brutally gangraped,her tongue cut off, spinal cord severely injured along with other injuries. She was raped by 4 upper caste men in Hathras district on September 14<sup>th<\/sup>.The four accused have been arrested.The girl\u2019s family alleged the main accused Sandeep and his family had always harassed Dalits in their area. Two decades ago, Sandeep\u2019s grandfather had been booked under SC\/ST Act and served three months in prison for allegedly thrashing the victim\u2019s grandfather over a petty issue.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The gruesome rapeof the Dalit woman brings forth space for conversation about<em>how Dalit women are one of the most vulnerable minority placed at the bottom of India\u2019s caste, class and gender hierarchy<\/em>, time and again subjected to sexual violence and other forms of violence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>According to National Crime Records Bureau (NCRB), of all the crimes committed against the members of Scheduled Castes, the highest are against Dalit women.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>NCRB 2017 suggested that, crimes against Dalit women have increased by 7.1% since 2015.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cIf you are a woman in India, and poor and a Dalit-then there is no position worse than that,\u201d said Mariam Dhawale, general secretary, All India Women\u2019s Association. She cited data from NCRB, which suggested that more than four Dalit women are raped every day.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Of the 33,000 rape cases reported and recorded in 2018, around 10 percent of the victims were Dalit or tribal, according to government data, which also showed that the number of rapes of Dalit women had now risen to six a day.
