People across the world were treated with the soulful melody of Dogri compositions – folk and popular songs at the first of its kind online Freedom Concert, held on August 15 to honour the nation’s brave. The 74th Independence Day saw people converging from Jammu, Chandigarh, Delhi, US, UK, Oman, Muscat and other parts of the continent to salute the sacrifices of our warriors and be a part of the Freedom Concert hosted by Kunwar Viyogi Memorial Trust.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Be it the popular Dogri song ‘Bhala sipahiya dogariya’ or Dogri folk ‘Sapaari Di Daaliye’ the audience were mesmerised by the captivating voices of renowned singers Jasbir Jassi, popularly known for his foot-tapping songs like Dil Le Gayee, Laungda Lashkara, Kudi Kudi, soulful Ghazal singer Radhika Chopra – daughter of the soil, brother-sister duo RJ Roohie and Juhi, folk singer Vanshhika Jaral and soloist singer Dr Manvi Gupta.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Freedom Concert also saw the launch of its campaign #I Am Bharat, a unique endeavour to connect the youth across the globe with each other and expose them to the wealth of India and the Dogri culture in particular. The campaign was unveiled at the concert with all the participating artists singing ‘Saare Jahan Se Accha’ and others through their hundreds of video messages embracing the values of a free India and what it means to live in an Independent India. Some shared their experiences and some expressed through their dance and other art forms.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Heartbeat of Punjabi music Jasbir Jassi mesmerised the audience with a number of Punjabi folk songs and his all-time popular numbers like Heer, Dil Leygai Kudi, Koka Koka and many more foot-tapping compositions. The people of Jammu will soon hear their favourite singer coon in Dogri. Jassi is currently composing a Dogri song, penned by Kunwar Viyogi which the singer revealed during the concert will be released soon. The very versatile singer, composer and actor said that for the longest time he wanted to sing a Dogri song and had spoken to many of his friends in the industry. “It was like my prayers were answered when Kunwar Viyogi Trust approached me to sing Viyogiji’s song,” Jassi said. Keeping true to his motherland, the Punjabi singer did not disappoint his fans as they asked him to sing a patriotic song. The singer in his Punjabi style, signed off with ‘Yeh Desh Hai Veer Jawano Ka’, a composition that could melt even the mountains.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Daughter of the soil – Radhika Chopra captivated the audience with her heart-warming ghazals. ‘Tum Apna Ranjo Gham’ stole a million hearts, as Radhika sang her popular ghazals ‘Mujhse Pehli Si Mohabbat’, ‘Yeh Ghazaal Si Nigaahein’ among others. Calling herself a patriot and a passionate Bhartiya, Radhika confessed that August 15 is most special for her. “I was born on August 15 and my nation attained freedom today. I am daughter of this soil and very proud to be an India,” said Radhika. Birthday wishes began pouring in for the daughter of Jammu soon after, who also said that her love for Dogri and the people is someone thing she cherishes the most. Before signing off Radhika once again treated her fans with a patriotic number ‘Aaye Mere Watan Ke Logo’. She said that her heart swells with pride each time she sings this song as a tribute to the Nation’s brave.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Manvi, who is a soloist with the oldest choir in Delhi – The Capital City Minstrels (CCM) opened the concert with her Dogri composition Dosti, penned by Kunwar Viyogi. Acted & performed in several musicals, Manvi has penned the English lyrics of Dosti and has composed the music of this foot-tapping song which is a fusion of Dogri and English. The versatile singer also crooned one of her original compositions Ehsaas and ended her session with patriotic melody Vande Mataram & Bharat humko jaan se pyaar hai.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

As the evening progressed, the audience were in for another treat. Brother-sister duo Roohie and Juhi opened the session with their latest Dogri number Bholi, penned by Kunwar Viyogi. Sharing their exprience about the song, the siblings revealed, It felt like we were destined to sing this song. It is such a beautiful composition that talks about the purity of love between bother and a sister.” The song is composed by father of Roohie and Juhi who is Jammu’s most popular singer Suraj Singh. Kunwar Viyogi wrote Bholi when he was only 17-years old. In the song he talks about his deep love for his young sister, who with her innocent antics and playfulness amuses her brother and brings joy to his heart. The singers also treated the audience with Dogri folk ‘Maye Ni meriya Jammua di Raye Bangadiyaa’ and a mash up of popular patriotic songs.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The youngest and the melodious singer of the Freedom Concert – Vanshika Jaral was a surprise package. The beauty and honesty in her voice left the audience spellbound soon after she began singing Dillangi Chaar, a Dogri song penned by Kunwar Viyogi. Vanshika, who is currently recording the song for Kunwar Viyogi Memorial Trust said that Dillangi Chaar is a romantic song that talk about purity of love. ” The poet in the song says that I love you without any conditions, and loving you will never be a mistake. You can choose not to love me, but for me you will be my first and only love,” said Vanshika. A scholarship holder under the Ministry of Culture Scholarship to Young Artists, winner of all India devotional song competition and an A grade artist of All India Radio, Vanshika also enthralled the audience with Dogri folk ‘Sapaari Di Daaliye’, a very popular number in Jammu.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
