WHO IS GUNJAN SAXENA?
If you don\u2019t probably know who Gunjan Saxsena is, let me take you through her life journey and tell you how she reached the heights with faith and passion for what she dreamt of doing. Most people know that Gunjan Saxena was the first-ever woman IAF pilot. She along with Flight Lieutenant Srividya Rajan rescued soldiers during the Kargil War in 1999. She was honoured with the Shaurya Vir award for displaying courage and strength during the war.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
ALL YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT \u2018GUNJAN SAXSENA\u2019 :
\u2981 Gunjan Saxena was born in Lucknow. She Has an army background. Her father and brother were in the Indian Army and she took inspiration from them.
\u2981 Gunjan Saxena completed her graduation from Hansraj College, University of Delhi in New Delhi with a Bachelor of Science degree in Physics and then joined the Delhi Flying Club at Safdarjung Airport.
\u2981 She went on to take the SSB entrance exam. She cleared the exam and joined the Indian Air Force in the year 1994. She was among a group of 25 women who joined the IAF in 1994. This was the first batch of women air force trainees for the IAF.
\u2981 Saxena’s first posting was in Udhampur, as part of the 132 Forward Area Control (FAC), where she had to face many gender based challenges like adapting to makeshift changing rooms until new ones were built for women.
\u2981 She was 25 years old when she flew during the Kargil War. During the Kargil war, Gunjan Saxsena was one of the pilots who flew over the Kargil\u2013Tololing\u2013Batalik area and surveyed it to report any activity. When casualties were reported, Gunjan went for medical evacuations. Her chopper was almost missed by an enemy missile and crashed. Despite that, she continued with her duty. She landed on the helipad and waited for injured soldiers to be carried to her chopper and successfully rescued them. She is the only woman to be part of the Kargil War, making her the first woman IAF officer to go to war. She is the first of two women along with Srividya Rajan from the IAF to enter a war zone flying Cheetah helicopters.
\u201cI think it is the ultimate feeling that you can ever have as a helicopter pilot. That was one of our main roles there – casualty evacuation. I would say it\u2019s a very satisfying feeling when you save a life because that is what you\u2019re there for.\u201d

\u2981 In 2004, her career as a helicopter pilot ended after serving as a pilot for seven years. The concept of permanent commission was not there during her time.
\u2981 Her husband Wing Commander Gautam Narain is an Indian Air Force pilot. Commander Narain is an exceptional and motivating officer who also served in National Defense Academy as an instructor and gave the armed forces hundreds of well trained officers. They also have one daughter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Gunjan Saxena: The Kargil Girl is an upcoming Netflix movie directed by Sharan Sharma and produced under Dharma Productions and Zee Studios. The film stars Janhvi Kapoor as Indian Air Force pilot Gunjan Saxena, alongside Pankaj Tripathi and Angad Bedi in supporting roles. The film was scheduled to release theatrically on 13 March 2020. However, that release postponed to 24 April 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Later this date also got postponed. Netflix acquired distribution rights to the film and on 9 June 2020 it released a movie trailer introducing Gunjan Saxena and announcing that the film will be streamed on 12 August 2020 on Netflix.
Movie Star Cast includes Janhvi Kapoor as Gunjan Saxena, Pankaj Tripathi as Gunjan’s father, Angad Bedi as Gunjan’s brother, Manav Vij, Vineet Kumar Singh, Ayesha Raza Mishra as Gunjan’s mother.
However, Janhvi kapoor has been trolled a lot for her acting skills and social media is flooded with memes about her role in the movie. People believe that she would not be able to justify this kind of a strong character and that some other actress would have performed better.
