Aweek before the first anniversary of abrogation of Article 370 on August 5, Jammu and Kashmir DG Dilbag Singh said the Union Territory is faring better in all parameters of security. Srinagar, the top cop said, \u201cWe have fared better in security parameters with 73 percent drop in law and order issues and 40 percent drop in terror-related activities.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
IG Kashmir Vijay Kumar has said, \u201c75 percent of local militants have been neutralised and security forces will now focus on going after foreign terrorists.\u201d Nearly 150 terror operatives have been neutralised in the past six months.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
J&K authorities have restricted high speed mobile internet in the region since last year and allowed only 2G internet to continue. DG Singh expressed apprehension saying, \u201cA desperate Pakistan is trying to foment trouble by misusing the internet, hence the decision to continue with 2G. It is to avoid misuse by troublemakers\u201d.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Speaking further, he said, \u201cWe have eased internet restrictions over the past one year from no communications, to allowing phone calls, landlines and eventually mobile phones, but the speed restriction is to limit Pakistani elements from indulging in mischief.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Meanwhile, with indications of politics resuming in the state and political workers being targeted, Dilbag Singh said, \u201cPakistan\u2019s ISI has targeted political workers and cops in a desperate bid.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n
He added, \u201cWe are trying to provide security based on threat assessment.\u201d IG Kashmir chipped in saying \u201c100 percent security coverage may not be possible for all political workers.\u201d From providing personal security officers to strengthening security apparatus is something J&K police has worked on.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
Even as there are signs that there may be resumption of political activity in the UT of J&K, political leaders including Ajay Pandita and BJP\u2019s Waseem Bari were killed in terror attacks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
The J&K Police has given security to several leaders irrespective of party affiliations, though there have been allegations that some workers targeted did not get adequate security while it was withdrawn from several other workers.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
On political leaders still under detention after a year, including PDP chief Mehbooba Mufti, J&K cops said that it is a decision of the administration.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
