In a major relief measure for passengers affected by the continued closure of the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway, Northern Railway on Friday operated a special train between Srinagar and Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Katra, enabling the safe evacuation of more than 600 stranded passengers.<\/p>\n
The special train was introduced after the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway remained closed due to incessant rainfall, landslides and shooting stones at several vulnerable locations, severely disrupting road connectivity between the Kashmir Valley and the Jammu region.<\/p>\n
Railway officials said the special service was launched as an emergency measure to facilitate the movement of stranded travellers and minimise the inconvenience caused by the prolonged highway closure.<\/p>\n
The train transported over 600 passengers from the Valley to Katra, providing much-needed relief to those who had been unable to continue their journey by road.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile, restoration work on the Jammu-Srinagar National Highway is continuing at multiple affected stretches. However, continuous rainfall has slowed debris clearance and repair operations.<\/p>\n
