The night temperature in Srinagar rose sharply to <strong>1.3 degrees Celsius<\/strong>, a significant increase from the previous night\u2019s <strong>-0.6 degrees<\/strong>, marking a rise of 2.2 degrees above the seasonal average.<\/p>\n<p>Other locations also noted above-freezing temperatures during the night. <strong>Konibal<\/strong> recorded temperatures at <strong>1.0 degrees Celsius<\/strong>, <strong>Pulwama<\/strong> at <strong>0.1 degrees<\/strong>, and <strong>Kulgam<\/strong> at <strong>1.1 degrees<\/strong>. Most weather stations across the Valley reported minimum temperatures trending normally for this time of year.<\/p>\n<p>Despite the overall improvement, harsh cold persisted in higher altitude areas. <strong>Sonamarg<\/strong>, situated in Ganderbal district, remained the coldest in Jammu and Kashmir with a minimum temperature of <strong>-10.6 degrees Celsius<\/strong>, though this was slightly milder than the prior night\u2019s <strong>-11.2 degrees<\/strong>. The famed ski resort, <strong>Gulmarg<\/strong>, noted temperatures at <strong>-9 degrees<\/strong>, while <strong>Pahalgam<\/strong> in the southern region of Kashmir recorded <strong>-5.3 degrees Celsius<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Other weather stations reported varied temperatures: <strong>Qazigund<\/strong> at <strong>-0.3 degrees<\/strong>, <strong>Kokernag<\/strong> at <strong>-0.6 degrees<\/strong>, and <strong>Kupwara<\/strong> at <strong>-3.1 degrees Celsius<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Chillai Kalan, which commenced on December 21, is known as the coldest phase of winter in Kashmir, often linked to increased snowfall, particularly in elevated regions. With the conclusion of this chilling period, the Valley now transitions into <strong>Chillai Khurd<\/strong> (small cold), lasting 20 days, and will eventually be followed by <strong>Chillai Bachha<\/strong> (baby cold), which lasts for 10 days.<\/p>\n<p>The Meteorological Department has indicated the likelihood of a fresh western disturbance affecting the region on Sunday, which could trigger another spell of wet weather.
