Jammu and Kashmir’s Minister for Youth Services and Sports, Satish Sharma<\/strong>, met Union Minister for Youth Affairs and Sports, Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya<\/strong>, in New Delhi today. Their discussion focused on strengthening sports infrastructure and enhancing youth engagement in Jammu and Kashmir.<\/p>\n

Sharma presented a comprehensive memorandum<\/strong> to the Union Minister, reiterating the J&K Government\u2019s commitment to transform the Union Territory into a thriving sports hub. This initiative primarily aims to empower the youth through athletics.<\/p>\n

Proposals outlined in the memorandum emphasized infrastructure development, athlete welfare, and grassroots participation<\/strong>. These align with both the National Sports Policy 2025<\/strong> and the J&K Sports Policy 2022<\/strong>.<\/p>\n

Sharma specifically requested assistance from the Union Government to expedite the development of world-class sports facilities. Key projects include the National Winter Sports Centre of Excellence at Gulmarg<\/strong>, modernization of district stadiums, and creation of sports amenities at the panchayat level<\/strong> to provide equitable access for rural youth.<\/p>\n

In addition, he called for the expansion of Khelo India grassroots programs<\/strong>, increasing scholarship and financial aid for athletes. The proposal also highlighted the need for integrating sports science and physiotherapy<\/strong> into athlete training systems.<\/p>\n

To enhance the sports tourism sector and achieve global exposure for the region, Sharma proposed hosting international winter sports events in Gulmarg<\/strong>. This initiative aims to position Jammu and Kashmir as a premier global destination for winter and adventure sports.<\/p>\n

Additionally, the Minister requested the prompt release of \u20b9103.82 crore under Khelo India. This funding is crucial for the completion of essential sports infrastructure projects within the region.<\/p>\n

In response, Union Minister Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya<\/strong> assured that a dedicated policy for promoting rural sports will be formulated shortly. He confirmed that funds for sports equipment will be allocated to support both ongoing and upcoming initiatives.<\/p>\n
